Atventures of @!- The on-line contest site where winning is fun!

Atventures Press

Michael J. McCarthy has put his finger right on the pulse of the internet mania that is  sweeping the globe (You May Not Know What to Call A # but You Know the @ Sign, WSJ, Nov 16, 1999).

The "@" has become the darling of the web, and  so, the world. Yet its name is elusive.  For this  reason, we launched a contest at the beginning  of  this month to "Name the  @". Visitors to the site (www.atventures.org) can enjoy following  the saga  of an adorable  cartoon character, who  is "neurotic  schlep", traveling the world in  search  of  his name.

We are hopeful that the dilemma of what to  call  the "@" can be resolved soon.

 Respectfully,

 Benjamin and Phyllis Corn

While "@" (known as the "commercial a") has long been the unofficial symbol of internet communication, you can now beta test your own name for it - and win $2000 if your choice is a success. For rules and registration, go to the Name the @ and Win Contest (www.atventures.org).

I wonder who'll be the first to submit the endearingly simple Israeli moniker "strudel". "Kim Novak" might also be nice, given the similiarity between the logogram and the actress's hairdo in Vertigo. The official French term "aerobaf" would also have a buoyant sort of charm in English.
